(bass) clarinetist and composer
About
Luismi Aguilar is a (bass) clarinetist and composer. Always curious, he is engaged deeply with diverse musical languages and traditions, cultivating versatility and a transversal approach.

He grew up between classical music, jazz, and Andalusian traditions, a musical landscape that has shaped both his musical language and his artistic identity. He is currently active in projects such as Tarab Machine and Laurence Cousseau’s Quintet, and is busy composing and preparing for his debut album release.

His curiosity has led him to perform widely across Europe, making him an in-demand sideman with bands including the LOA Collective, and he has shared the stage with major international artists, including Barbara Wiernik, dancer Célia Rorive, composer Sachit Ajmani, and Marjan Farsad.

Initially trained as a classical musician, he developed a wide range of activities in chamber music and orchestra, winning the First Prize at the 5th José Gámez Chamber Music Competition with Trio Sedhu and performing with the Barenboim-Said Foundation Orchestra Academy, the Andalusian Youth Orchestra, and the European Union Youth Wind Orchestra (EUYWO). He studied with Antonio Salguero, Piotr Szymyslik, Juan Escalera, and Israel Sánchez, among others, at the Conservatory of Seville. He also studied jazz and improvised music at the Conservatoire Royal of Brussels with Fabrice Alleman and Manu Hermia, with Joris Roelofs at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, and with Miguel Zenón at the Siena Jazz Summer Workshops.

In 2025, he launched a Sextet, taking another step towards compositional leadership through appearances at the Festival des Nocturnes, the B-Jazz International Competition, and the Lotto-Brussels Jazz Weekend.

Besides performing, Luismi occasionally teaches, and he is happy sharing his love and enthusiasm for clarinet and music.
